DORIS SALCEDO: a female, Colombian sculptor (One of her main goals: to create a change in perspective) SHIBBOLETH: Shibboleth : a word or custom that a person not familiar with a language may mispronounce; used to identify foreigners or people of a different class (so that they can be excluded) The work by Colombian sculptor Doris Salcedo, entitled Shibboleth, runs the full 167 metres (548 feet) of the cavernous hall. It begins as a hairline crack in the concrete floor of the building, Is a Colombian artist who focuses on the social issues of the world and her country. She encounters many issues such as discrimination, the immigrant and political unfairness. Uses a public intervention, sculpture and installation which deal with memory.

Her most notorious work, Shibboleth (2007), which saw an enormous 167m long crack set into the floor of Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, baffled everyone.

These prints by Doris Salcedo are digital sketches of Shibboleth, an installation piece created at the Tate Modern in London.The installation itself was a fracture made on the floor of the hall, disrupting the room violently and forcing visitors to monitor their movement around it. Doris Salcedo 's work Shibboleth 2007 was a long snaking fissure that ran the vast length of the Turbine Hall, as if striking to the very foundations of the museum.
