Suffice it to say that this is/these are a coming of age story(ies) about a Jewish boy in 1960s suburban New Jersey and New York City with ambitions to be a writer.

It was by happenstance that I picked up a copy of Paul Auster’s latest novel 4321 (2017) a couple of weeks ago at a McGill University “take a book leave a book” site. As expected from Paul Auster, the novel is hilarious, genius, meta and highly readable. But what was unexpected was that I found myse 2017-02-04 A long novel is something thought to be a serious novel. Paul Auster’s 866-page “4 3 2 1,” landing with a thud on the threshold of the nation’s bookstores, is plainly playing with that idea.

I kept thinking I could have read three novels in the time it took me to wade through this. If I hadn’t finished it I would probably had given it two and a half stars but the conclusion did show the Auster’s intention and his dedication to his thought experiment. And if it took me half a year to read, I can only imagine the half a lifetime Auster put into it.

Läs mer på Kristianstadsbladet Läs mer om: Auster, Austers, Christian Swalander With 4321, Auster makes his declaration of love to literature and to the artist as a young man, and to the craftsmanship of writing, and because of that it sounds almost as a biography. It is also a declaration in favor of tolerance over all (in times of "us against them," it is not a bad thing to remember what the world has already gone through to become less savage.)
